Why Do I Work From Home as a Massage Therapist?

Why Do I Work From Home

I knew before I could even move to Florida, from Pittsburgh, that I needed to have a job waiting for me. I got incredibly lucky when I was connected to Jakki Bosco, owner of Tampa Massage Clinic, (now Orlando Massage Clinic). I was looking for a therapeutic practice with no drama! Tampa Massage Clinic proved to be all that and more. Typically, an interview for a Massage Therapist generally involves a hands-on practical. Jakki agreed to hire me based on references and recommendations, sight unseen. I don't think either of us was ever disappointed in our meeting.

Tampa Massage Clinic was located in West Chase, 37 miles from where I live in Riverview. Back in Pittsburgh, 37 miles would amount to a 40 minute drive. Not so here in Tampa! Some times my commute one-way could take up to two hours! I decided about a year and a half ago that I wanted to open my own practice from my home, where I could gradually build up my clientele before investing in a rental space. I never expected or even wanted any of my West Chase clients to come to Riverview. I know the hike all too well. So, essentially, it was starting all over from scratch.

I went about getting all of my licensing and permits and equipment. The longest part of the process was getting the zoning permit. I was slated to open March 1st, 2020. Because I have spent so much of my time since coming to Florida on the other side of Tampa, and because I don't really know anyone here I went on a quest to find a network of chiropractors for referral purposes. While checking out one in Brandon, he broke my rib. Yes, you read that right! I am still a fan of chiropractic and not saying that to turn anyone away from seeking out that as a viable form of treatment. It just happened! It was February 21, 2020.

So much for being able to open March 1st! I could not push, or pull, or bear any weight on my arms at all.

My recovery rolled right into the shut-down. Jakki's lease at Tampa Massage Clinic was up for renewal during the shut-down, and because no one knew what was going to happen, she opted not to renew.

Once we were permitted to open for business I opened up my space in my home. If you look at the attached images, you will see that I did go through the process of having my home inspected and I do have a legal establishment license for this location; my home. Just because it's a residence, don't let that fool you into thinking I am anything BUT a professional provider of high quality therapeutic bodywork.

I certainly look forward to opening a professional space elsewhere in the near future. In the interim, I'm happy to serve those who trust me with their body, while I safely build up my clientele.
